Rules

1 That this Society be established for the advancement of Horticulture generally, and especially among Amateur gardeners, by means of talks, demonstrations, shows, and otherwise, and be called "The Abingdon Horticultural Society".
2 The Officers of the Society shall consist of a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, elected annually.
3 The business of the Society shall be conducted by a Committee of the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary ex-officio, and a minimum of nine other members who are elected for a period of three years, one third of the number retiring annually; these retiring members to be eligible for re-election. Five members of the Committee shall form a quorum.
4 The accounts of the Society shall be kept by the Treasurer and shall be passed by the Committee. Cheques shall be signed by two of the Officers, Treasurer, Chairman or Secretary.
5 A subscription, set by agreement at a General Meeting of the Society shall constitute the subscriber a member of the Society. Members shall be entitled to admission to the Society's Shows on production of current membership card.
6 The general management of exhibitions shall be left in the hands of the Committee, who for that purpose shall have power to make such regulations as they may find necessary, not being inconsistent with these rules, and to appoint and delegate powers to a Sub-Committee.
7 The Annual General Meeting of the Society shall take place during the month of January. At this, an election will be held to fill vacancies in the list of Officers and Committee Members caused by retirement. Subscriptions for the coming year will then be considered due. The Committee shall have the power to fill casual vacancies during the year or to co-opt additional Committee Members. These appointments to be confirmed at the next General or Annual meeting. Newly appointed replacement members shall serve for the unexpired term of office of the retiring members. Only Members and Subscribers who have paid their contributions for the previous or current year shall have the right to vote. A balance sheet, duly audited, shall be presented by the Committee for adoption at the Annual Meeting.
8 Members living within a 15 mile radius of OX14 1NS (The Northcourt Centre) shall be entitled to exhibit at the Society's Spring and Autumn Shows.
9 On the order of the Committee, or a requisition signed by not less than twelve members, the Secretary shall call a Special General Meeting within 14 days, giving at least 14 days notice, specifying the matter for which the meeting is called, and no other business shall be discussed or transacted thereat.
10 Alterations, amendments or additions to Rules shall only be made at the Annual General Meeting or at a Special General Meeting called for that purpose. Notice of alterations or additions to the Rules shall be sent to the Secretary not less than seven days prior to the meeting.
